Working and Parenting through Covid 19

Parenting, Working and Teaching: Steps to Help You Do All Three

The recent coronavirus outbreak has meant that millions of parents across the globe are now facing the impossible task of being a parent, worker and teacher.

Getting through your day is difficult enough when you’re trying to work from home with the kids. However, when you also have to home school them at the same time, it can prove to be a real nightmare. If you’re trying to find the right balance in this unprecedented situation, there are some tips you can follow. Here, we’ll look at some of the steps you can take to accomplish your new role without losing your mind.

Create and work from a schedule

The one thing that’s going to prove invaluable during this time, is creating and maintaining a schedule. The kids need a schedule and you need one to help you keep up with your increased duties.

Start with making a schedule for the kids. You can include educational activities, play time and mealtimes. When they know what they are working on and have a schedule to follow, it makes it so much easier for both them and you. Kids need a routine and they’ll be a lot happier when they’re following one.

Make time for physical activity

It can be tough trying to work when the kids have bundles of energy. So, why not help them burn off that energy so you can work in peace?

Getting them to partake in physical activity helps to wear them out as well as keep them healthy. So, encourage time running around in the back yard. You could cerate a mini assault course or look online for physical games you could play.

Once they’ve finished their physical activity, they will be more likely to play quietly for a period of time.

Remember you are not responsible for developing a teaching program. Many schools are offering online support to guide you through learning outcomes. Teaching your own child requires a different level of patience , so go easy on yourself and them. Look for fun activities that also teach.

Working at Home During Covid19

How to Be Productive Working at Home

As convenient and beneficial as working from home can be, it can also prove to be damaging to productivity. The trouble is, up until now, you’ve associated your home as a space for relaxing. So, it can be difficult switching to a more productive mindset when you’re in the comfort of your home.

The good news is, there are ways to boost your productivity when remote working. Here, you’ll discover some of the best ways to stay productive when working at home.

De-clutter your workspace

You’re going to find it hard to stay productive if your workspace is cluttered. So, before you start, take time to clean up the area you’re planning on working in. Get rid of any clutter and organize the space. The cleaner and tidier the space is, the easier you’ll find it to focus on your work.

Take breaks to get out in the yard

Suddenly being cooped up in the house all day can be detrimental to productivity. It can cause issues with low mood and leave you feeling less motivated to get through your workload.

By taking regular breaks and making time to get out into the yard, it can really boost those productivity levels. Spend just 10-15 minutes gardening or reading a book outdoors to help refresh productivity levels.

Always prepare for the day ahead

When you go out to work, you know there’s things you need to do to get ready for the day. You have a routine which prepares you for work. However, when you start working from home you don’t really have that.

Rather than thinking you can now work in your pajamas all day, make the effort to get dressed. Create a morning routine which sets you up for work. That way, you’ll find it much easier to stay productive if your mindset is geared towards work.

Utilize the power of nature

Did you know that plants and flowers can help you to feel more motivated? Adding them into your workspace can help to brighten up the working environment. Numerous studies have shown how effective greenery can be within an office environment. So, if you want an easy way to stay productive, add a few houseplants and flowers to your home office.

You can also utilize the power of scent too. In some countries, workplaces spray citrus scents to boost employee productivity. Try experimenting with different scents to see which ones make you work more efficiently.

Staying productive when working at home isn’t easy but it is doable. The above are some of the best methods you can try to increase those productivity levels. Taking regular breaks away from your computer are important, not just for productivity but for your health too.

Happy Leap year!

We celebrated February 29th with a party! because “grand opening” is just too boring.

A big thank you all our friends both old and new for coming out, we ended up going way past our original timings but no one seem to mind as you watched and participated in the demonstrations on the various modalities that we offer .

With so much going on we had lots of food left over even the chocolate candy was hardly touched! we also didn’t even have the time for the odd photo as everyone enjoyed each others company so much with lots of conversation but that’s OK because we achieved our goal and that was for everyone leave with a smile.

Rest and Restore

Sleep, Our time to Rest and Restore

Start by giving yourself time to let your body do what it does naturally.

Winter is a time that animals naturally sleep more. It is part of life’s natural cycle yet as humans we constantly fight against what our body needs. We become immersed in our work , T.V, electronic devices and wake up feeling tired and overwhelmed. “Where is the energy that I had last summer, last fall ?”you ask.

The idea of going to bed earlier is often resisted because we feel guilty, shame or even lazy. Have you ever felt this way? Give yourself permission to rest. Rest can come in many forms like an earlier bed time but can also include meditation, reflexology or reiki to name a few.

Today is the day you can start to prioritize your rest simply by following a few steps that can help lead you to a better nights rest.

  1. Go to bed earlier, if this seems daunting then start with a half hour earlier and see if this helps. It may be that you need to go to bed an hour earlier but the half hour is a start .
  2. Put away devices, phone, T.V. Computer at least one hour before bed. This is a difficult one for many as they use the reason that they feel this is their down time. In fact, it has been proven that the screen time keeps your mind active while you sleep and therefore contributes to your feelings of tiredness. Reading a book, spending time chatting with family, puzzles, etc are all things you can do to fill in that hour before bedtime.
  3. Optimize your sleeping area, with cooler temperatures and a darkened room. A tidy bedroom creates a restful area. Diffuse or use a spray of lavender in your room helps to contribute to lulling your mind and body to sleep Remember if you have been running on empty for a while , it will take more than one night to refuel your tank. At Wellness 180 you can explore other ways to optimize your quest for better sleep and more energy.
